Program: "Carolina Stories: Incident at Mars Bluff"
Episode(s):Carolina Stories: Incident at Mars Bluff
Production Date(s):2009
Synopsis:"Incident at Mars Bluff" explores how the world's most technologically advanced air power came to drop a three-ton nuclear device on a small town in South Carolina. Interviews with the surviving members of the Gregg family will reveal how the incident affected them then and to this day. Additional interviews with surviving crew members, Air Force personnel, Mars Bluff residents and Cold War historians will shed light on the incident and provide local, national and international perspectives on the world's first nuclear blunder. Excitement at Mars Bluff over the atomic bomb died out almost as quickly as it had started and the incident faded into an obscure corner of history and few people outside the tiny village are even aware that it took place.
