CCI
Prior to its closing in early 1994, the Central Correctional Institution was South Carolina's oldest prison. Independent producer Benjamin von Cramon recorded the sights and sounds, as well as the feelings of rage and hopelessness contained within the prison walls. Narrated by Charles Joyner, the documentary examines the history of CCI, going back to 1797 when it was first proposed that South Carolina build a state prison. The program also traces how prison reform follows state trends in crime and punishment.
