Many baseball greats started their careers in either the Textile Mill Leagues or the segregated Negro Leagues. Baseball in the Upstate explores the fascination of baseball, and why it remains one of the favorite pastimes in the area.

Carolina Stories: Chasing the Swamp Fox
Chasing The Swamp Fox details Francis Marion’s partisan campaigns during the American Revolution in South Carolina and paints a mosaic of what life was like in those years and how Marion’s participation led to the birth of modern day guerilla warfare as well as the liberation of our country.
Featuring the artwork of illustrator James H. Palmer and interviews with some of the state’s most prominent historians and writers, including Walter Edgar, Roy Talbert, Christine Swager, Daniel Littlefield, and archaeologist Steve Smith .

Carolina Stories: Finding Clovis
Finding Clovis takes viewers on an archeological adventure at the Topper dig site in Allendale County, South Carolina. Famous for Clovis and pre-Clovis artifacts there is recent evidence that may support the theory that a comet suddenly wiped out the Clovis culture 13,000 years ago. The Topper dig annually attracts scientists, students, volunteers, and observers. As part of Finding Clovis, world-renowned scientists such as Allen West and Dennis Stanford from The Smithsonian; David Anderson, Scott Jones, and Al Goodyear from the University of South Carolina will offer their opinions about these significant first Americans—where they came from, how they lived, and what may have been their fate.

This program looks at the history of Florence, SC which originally began as a railroad junction. During the Civil War, a Confederate stockade was located there, and a gunboat built in Florence patrolled the Great Pee Dee River. Today, Florence is an important regional hub, with leading medical facilities, educational institutions, and growing industry.

Carolina Stories: G-Man: The Rise and Fall of Melvin Purvis
Melvin Horace Purvis, to many people today, the name means nothing. But it was not so long ago that Purvis was a household name, and over 260,000 boys and girls were digging through boxes of Post Toasties breakfast cereal to get their very own decoder rings and Junior G-Man badges. Purvis, the Timmonsville native with the unassuming name, skyrocketed to such fame in the 1930s as leader of the FBI team that took down some of the biggest gangsters of his day, including John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. His death in 1960 from a gun shot to the head is still shrouded in mystery. Was it a suicide, as first reported? Was it an accidential shooting? Or was there something more sinister behind it.
